SPECIAL PROJECT
Crossing point for the Romans heading to Porto Brandão, arriving by boat In Lisbon, Murfacém is considered the oldest town in the municipality. The traces Muslims attest to its antiquity: an old dwelling, interesting architecture, and some cisterns of the same origin. The Murfacém Morabito, similar to the one at Cabo Espichel, is reused for a Christian chapel or hermitage dedicated to Our Lady of Remedies on the farm where the temple is inserted. At the top of Rua da Liberdade, you can see an imposing chapel, the Capela de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, which probably dates from the 14th or 15th century and belonged to the Quinta do Carmo, which belonged to D. Nuno Álvares Pereira. Following the history and beauty of this building and area, we decided to adopt and renovate it, looking for a cultural center where artists can meet and share a vision where creativity and arts keep filling the present and future of our community.
